The thighs are a problem area for many people. Fat and cellulite can easily accumulate on the thighs, even among people who are otherwise fit and healthy; yet, efforts to tone the thighs through diet and exercise can often prove fruitless. For this reason, thigh lift has become one of the most popular body contouring procedures in all of plastic surgery.
It is also one of the most transformative body contouring procedures in all of plastic surgery. By performing thigh lift surgery at his Victoria, TX practice, plastic surgeon Brian F. Burns can help his patients look slimmer, healthier, and more youthful simply by removing excess tissues from the thigh region. Although the procedure can be combined with other body contouring procedures as part of a more comprehensive treatment plan, thigh lift can produce dramatic results when performed on its own.
Are you a good candidate for thigh lift surgery? We invite you to meet with Dr. Brian F. Burns at his state-of-the-art plastic surgery clinic at your earliest convenience to find out for yourself.
What Is Thigh Lift Surgery?
Thigh lift surgery is a body contouring procedure intended to remove excess tissues from, and thereby restore definition to, the thighs. There are four basic techniques used to perform the procedure. The technique chosen depends on the individual patient’s needs and aesthetic goals:
- Inner thigh lift: The purpose of the inner thigh lift is to reshape the inner part of the upper legs. Dr. Burns makes an incision in the fold of skin where the thigh meets the public area. He then removes a wedge of skin and, if necessary, fat, pulling the remaining skin taut and suturing the incision closed. The patient emerges from the procedure with an improved thigh and a scar that can easily be concealed by underwear or the average bikini bottom.
- Mini thigh lift: This variation of the inner thigh lift requires only a short scar in the groin area. Although the mini thigh lift produces less dramatic results than the inner thigh lift, it also leaves less scarring.
- Outer, or bilateral, thigh lift: Outer thigh lift is performed on patients with more prominent sagging of the skin and excess fat on the upper legs. Dr. Burns makes a “V”-shaped incision at the top of the leg that extends from the front of the leg to either the hip or back around to the buttocks. He then removes excess tissues, pulls the remaining skin taut, and sutures the incision closed. The result is an altogether trimmer thigh area.
- Medial thigh lift: The medial thigh lift begins with an incision much like that made during the inner thigh lift; however, as with the outer thigh lift, it extends back to the buttocks or even to the hip region. If necessary, Dr. Burns may also make vertical incisions to remove even more excess tissues.
