Contour Your Upper Legs with a Thigh Lift Procedure
As we age, the skin loses elasticity, creating a loose or sagging appearance in certain areas of the body. When this occurs in the upper legs, it can cause patients to look older, heavier, and less fit than they actually are. A thigh lift can tighten and reduce sagging skin on your inner and outer thighs for a more defined, contoured appearance. At South Texas Plastic Surgery in Victoria, TX, Dr. Brian F. Burns has over 25 years of experience performing thigh lifts that deliver natural-looking, long-lasting results.
Various thigh lift techniques can target the inner or outer upper legs, or both.
Determining Whether a Thigh Lift Is Right for You
Healthy individuals who wish to eliminate excess skin and tissue around the outer or inner thigh areas can be considered for a thigh lift. It is important to note, however, that this procedure is cosmetic in nature, and is not intended as a replacement for appropriate diet and exercise. Qualifying patients should be at or near their ideal weight, as any further fluctuations could hinder their results. As with all cosmetic procedures, patients should be in good overall health and should have realistic expectations of treatment. In addition, candidates should not smoke or drink excessively, since both habits can seriously hinder the outcome of your surgery.
The Thigh Lift Procedure
To begin the procedure, general anesthesia or intravenous sedation will be administered to keep you comfortable. Dr. Burns will then create small incisions to access the underlying tissues. The location of the incisions can vary, as every treatment plan will be customized to fit the needs of the patient. Techniques include:
- Inner Thigh Lift: This procedure specifically treats the inner upper legs.
- Bilateral Thigh Lift: A bilateral lift addresses tissue on the front and outside of the legs.
- Medial Thigh Lift: Similar to inner thigh lift but more involved, this technique can also refine the buttock or hip area.
Next, excess tissue and fat deposits will be removed, and liposuction may be used to gently suction out excess fat. In some cases, the underlying muscle tissue may be tightened as well. Once all unwanted tissue has been eliminated, Dr. Burns will reposition the remaining skin, pulling it taut for a smooth, youthful-looking appearance. The incisions will be closed with stitches or surgical tape and drains may be placed to reduce swelling.
Recovery and Aftercare
Following your thigh lift, Dr. Burns will provide you with a detailed list of post-surgical instructions. These guidelines should be followed closely for a swift and comfortable recovery. Immediately after your procedure, a compression garment may be placed to facilitate better contouring. We can also demonstrate sitting and sleeping positions to protect the surgical sites, keep you comfortable, and allow you to heal effectively. Discomfort can be managed with prescription medications and over-the-counter pain relievers.
Dr. Burns has over 25 years of experience performing thigh lifts that deliver natural-looking, long-lasting results.
During the healing process, patients will continue to visit our practice for routine follow-up appointments so their progress can be monitored. In most cases, patients should be able to return to work around two to three weeks after their procedure. Exercise other than walking should be delayed for about six to eight weeks after the thigh lift. During this time, the side effects of surgery will gradually diminish, with full results becoming evident after several months.
