A Chin Implant Can Complement Your Face
A weak chin or overly pronounced nose can cause many patients to lack confidence in their appearance. To help patients achieve their desired jawlines, Dr. Brian F. Burns can place a chin implant at his Victoria, TX, office. This relatively conservative procedure can significantly enhance your facial appearance, adding definition and contrast where you want it.
What Is a Chin Implant?
If you are dissatisfied with the shape of your chin, a chin implant can be placed during a brief facial surgery to refine, enhance, and significantly augment your current features. The implant will lay flat along your jaw to add volume and shape to your chin. Dr. Burns uses implants made from silicone, and they are offered in a variety of shapes and sizes. The right one for you will depend on your face shape and the result you want to achieve.
Chin implants can be customized to meet each individual patient’s needs and desires. Some patients want a subtle change in their look. Others prefer making a more dramatic statement and opt for a chin with more character. Dr. Burns will thoroughly explain the various options so that you can get the look that you want.
There are a variety of cosmetic concerns that a chin implant can improve and enhance. Chin implants can benefit patients who suffer from issues such as:
- Excessively pointed or square chins
- A recessed chin that causes a 'double chin'
- A fleshy neck
- An overly prominent nose
Patients who wish to receive an implant should be in good overall health, especially if you choose to combine your surgery with other facial or body contouring procedures. You also should not smoke, as this can delay and decrease your ability to heal.
Dr. Burns is dedicated to helping each and every patient achieve their aesthetic goals through individualized procedures.
Chin Implant Placement
Chin implant surgery is a relatively conservative procedure. It is performed at Dr. Burns’ office on an outpatient basis. The overall procedure will take between 45 minutes and an hour and a half. To start the procedure, Dr. Burns makes an incision underneath your chin or inside your mouth between the gums and lower lip. The implant is inserted and placed in front of your jawbone. Dr. Burns checks the placement of the implant, makes any necessary adjustments, and secures the implant in place, typically with sutures. Most patients are able to return to work and daily routines in about seven to 10 days.
Risks and Benefits
Because of Dr. Burns' extensive experience and expertise, there are limited side-effects from the surgery. Some bruising and swelling may last for up to six weeks after the procedure. Migration of the chin implant can also occur. However, this complication is rare and a minor procedure can correct it.
Many patients find that the benefits afforded by a chin implant outweigh the minor risks associated with the procedure. There are many ways a chin implant can improve your appearance. It can increase projection, width, and vertical height of the chin, as well as decrease or eliminate dimpling of your chin. A chin implant can also make a large nose appear smaller, as well as reduce the effect of a double chin or smooth the shape of your jaw. After one, quick procedure, you can enjoy a completely enhanced appearance.
