Facelift FAQs

Can I Get the Same Results with a Nonsurgical Treatment?

There are many nonsurgical options that can address minor cosmetic blemishes, but none can deliver the life-changing results that a facelift can. While chemical peels or laser treatments work on the skin’s surface, a facelift addresses the underlying structure of your face. Only a facelift or similar cosmetic surgery can tighten loose skin or permanently diminish the prominence of wrinkles.

What Type of Facelift is Right for Me?

During your consultation with Dr. Burns at our Victoria office, our doctor will explain your facelift options. These include: a full facelift, which addresses the entire face; a mini facelift, which treats the lower half of the face; and a mid facelift, which focuses on the cheeks. Which is most appropriate for you will depend on which parts of the face you hope to target.

How Long Does the Surgery Take? How Long Does it Take to Recover?

The length of your surgery will depend on the type of surgery you choose to undergo. In general, it can last three to six hours, although a mini facelift can sometimes be completed in under two hours. Recovery time will also differ, depending on the individual and whether the surgery is combined with any other procedures, such as a rhinoplasty or eyelid surgery.  Most patients are able to slowly resume normal activities after one or two weeks. Any swelling usually fades within two weeks or so.

Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is one of the most important qualifications to look for in a plastic surgeon.

What Should I Look for in a Plastic Surgeon?

Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is one of the most important qualifications to look for in a plastic surgeon. Dr. Burns not only has this esteemed distinction, but is also a respected surgeon who has successfully performed facelift surgery numerous times. He offers completely customized care and conducts all consultations and follow-ups himself.

How Long Will the Effects of a Facelift Last vs. Fillers?

Although fillers are sometimes referred to as “liquid facelifts,” they cannot deliver the long-lasting results of plastic surgery. At best, the effects of fillers alone last a few months. In contrast, the results from a facelift can be enjoyed for years to come.

What If I'm Interested in Other Cosmetic Procedures, Like a Rhinoplasty or Fillers?

There are many benefits to undergoing complementary cosmetic procedures at once. Pairing multiple procedures can even save you money in some situations. The overall recovery time can be reduced and the positive aesthetic results can be more drastic. If you are interested in undergoing multiple procedures at once, let Dr. Burns know during your pre-surgery consultation. He can advise you on the best way to schedule treatment.
